Winter 2018 Collection from Brooklyn Tweed
Since I joined the Brooklyn Tweed Design Team in 2012, each new year has been kicked off celebrating a new collection of patterns from all five of us. This year's collection is full of an assortment of sweaters and accessories sure to satisfy your passion for some dramatic knitting.
Here's a brief introduction to each of my pieces from our Winter 2018 Collection.
Nolan
We always nickname our patterns during conception/development and the nickname for Nolan became Graceful Chevron. You can see why. The cable pattern, covering the surface of the front and the back pieces, is worked in all knitted stitches (easy to follow/memorize) and the stitch definition in Arbor is a perfect balance of crispness yet softness. The sleeves are worked in stockinette stitch from picked up stitches at the armhole in a way that exposes the selvedge edge. The result is a classic, minimally textured pullover with a flattering boxy shape and simple rolled-edge neckline.
Mason
My first instinct when designing knitwear is to go straight to garments, but every once in a while I work out a stitch pattern that really, really needs to be an accessory. That was the case for this cowl, worked in a stitch pattern that uses simple knits, purls and slipped stitches to create a brick-like repeat (hence, the name Mason). Using one solid and one marled color of Shelter, the pattern includes instructions for holding the yarn single or double to suit different climates or preferences. There is some strategic shaping involved too, so that the cowl sits more flatteringly when worn.
