I'm moving to Spain.

The publish date of this Journal post is not the actual date I’m writing it. It’s April 22, the night before I launch my Sweater Club 9 collection. I’m always feeling a combination of excited and nervous about releasing something new. It’s months and months in the making, and by the time it’s ready, I need to distract myself in any way possible before putting it out there in the world. This one feels particularly intense, as it’s the last collection I am releasing from the US before I move to Spain.

Surprise! Yep, that’s right, I said Spain.

My default setting is not necessarily secretive, but I consider myself a relatively private person, which makes what I am writing about now somewhat difficult. How much do I want to say? How much does anyone want to hear? I have no idea, but for those who want to know more about the Julie behind the Julie Hoover brand, I will continue typing...

In 2019, my husband and I traveled to Spain, and part of our trip included driving from Ronda to Seville. I realized I would be near Estepona, where a lovely person named Inma has a yarn shop. In the days when printed patterns were still the norm, she ordered from me, and we began following one another online. I reached out to her, and we planned to meet for lunch. After that, a friendship on another level ensued. Since then, we’ve been back many times. We fell in love with the Costa del Sol, I now consider Inma a sister, and Estepona will soon be our new home.

While it has taken several years and many sleepless nights to figure out the details and logistics, things have fallen into place, and all that’s left is to go for it. We are soon-to-be empty-nesters who have loved living overseas in the past and are excited to do it again.

What will happen with my work? Well, I have many ideas, but I’m still figuring them out.

Starting July 20th, I’ll be pausing all shipping of physical orders. Setting up the European aspects of my business may take some time. I’m unsure what the tax implications or US tariff policies will be (currently making my head explode), but my aim is to continue providing the quality, thoughtfully crafted designs and project kits you’ve come to expect from me. In the meantime, if you’ve had your eye on something, now is a great time to place an order.

I’m super excited about what’s ahead, and I’ll do my best to bring you along on the adventure via my newsletters and on social media (@juliehoover_design on Instagram is where I’m most active).

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. I appreciate your continued support.

With cheer,
Julie

The house in the photo isn’t ours, but I’ve walked past it often and love its charm!
